8 Tips for a Healthy and Shining Skin
28.January, 2009
Tip 1: Drink Water
Water has long been considered as the most efficient natural treatment or an almost free treatment for any skin condition because of its being alkaline, with pH 7.3. It prevents dehydration which is capable of producing sebum or oil from the sebaceous glands. Your skin needs water in order for it to function best, thus doctors and nutritionists suggest that a daily intake of between 6 to 8 glasses of water per day is highly needed.
Tip 2: Watch Your Diet
Nutrition plays a vital role in skin health too. Specific foods such as those acidic foods and dairy products are said to be effective in causing an allergic reaction in some people. Also, one of the widely debated topics in the area of nutrition today is chocolates. Some say that chocolate does affect the condition of the skin, while others say it doesn’t. Whatever the result may be, the best advice is just to follow a nutritious diet that has a number of fresh fruits and green-leafy veggies, as well as fiber.
Tip 3: Consider Exfoliants
Many experts say that exfoliating your skin is another great way to attain a beautiful skin. So, try to invest in a good body exfoliant or “loofah”, as it is commonly called, as it is capable of eliminating the dead skin cells from your body. Accordingly, this should be done once or twice a week so to free the skin to breathe. What’s more, exfoliants help to put off ingrown hair from developing.
However, it is essential to avoid using any body exfoliant on the skin on the face. The main reason for this precaution is that the facial tissue is more sensitive and finer than those tissues of the body.
Tip 4: Consider a Healthy Routine for Facial Care
When it comes to facial skin care, getting into a healthy beauty routine is not bad. Most of the doctors today greatly suggest that you cleanse, moisturize and tone your skin twice every day. When cleaning, never fail to remember cleaning the area on the neck, including your face. Apply a moisturizer or neck cream after.
Before going to bed at night, always bear in mind to remove all make up. Clean your skin before you sleep, no matter how tired you may feel. It was found out that during the night, the skin goes through a process of elimination and cannot breathe properly if it is clogged with make up. And, you may also find out that sleeping with your make up on will cause your skin to “break out” with spots on it.
When it comes to shaving for men, some men may experience shaving rashes. For many, these rashes lower their self-esteem, but this is actually not a big problem to think about. There are a lot ways to avoid rashes. Perhaps one of the best is to make sure that when shaving, the razor strokes are following the direction of hair growth. That’s simply it!
Tip 5: Heal Your Feet
When it comes to skin care, the feet are often neglected. So, if care you found no time for a professional pedicure, try to fill a football or basin with warm water and add your favorite essential oil. Soak your feet for about fifteen minutes. Then, dry them and apply a rough skin remover onto them. Rinse this off and dry you feet well. And, if you consider pedicure, simply add some body cream to your feet for an easy and quick fix pedicure.
Tip 6: Avoid Too Much Exposure to the Sun
One of the most common precautions when it comes to skin care is avoiding too much exposure to the sun. As you may know, over exposure to sunlight causes sunburn. So, while current sun blocks only block out the UVB rays and still let in harmful UVA rays, it is still wise to cover up before venturing into the hands of Apollo. If possible, use a wide brimmed hat while tending your garden to keep the sun from your face.
Tip 7: Exercise
Aside from considering a healthy diet, exercising your body also helps keep your skin healthy. Note that a proper exercise does not only keep the body fit by regulating the oxygen; it also improves the glow of the skin as well.
Tip 8: Take Enough Rest
One common problem that face people is stress; the one which is not normal. It was found out that when a person is stressed, the adrenal cortex converts adrenal androgens to the hormone testosterone in male and female, which in turn results in overactive sebaceous glands. These adrenal androgens are released causing a double amount of testosterone, causing the face to be oily, while other areas of the body are still dry from dehydration. So, taking proper rest that includes 6 to 8 hours of undisturbed sleep daily is the best way to rejuvenate the skin.

Skin/ Facial Tips?
I would like some tips on making my skin look great. I usually use topical, perscription acne products, but they usually cause my skin to become really dry. I would apreciate steps on facial masks, cleansing tips, getting rid of and keeping acne away, or anything that would help keep my skin looking healthy and gorgeous. Also, I have oily skin. Throughout the day, my face gets shiny. Its not horrible, but I would like some tips to help reduce the shine on my face. Oh, and if you have any tips on make up that would help improve or maintain my face, that would be great too. These don't have to be "at home" remedies. I am willing to spend money.
All answers are appreciated.
Thanks so much.

Here is my best advice:
There is a really awesome foundation by Almay called "Clear Complexion Make-up." They sell 3 different kinds - one for oily skin, one for combo skin and one for dry skin. I use the oily skin one, and it really covers up all blemishes and it also helps heal pimples. It totally does NOT get oily or cakey either. It's about 10 bucks, but it really works great! I have oily skin and and I wear this make up the whole day without my face getting like an oil slick. (my face used to oil up about an hour after putting on make up.)
Here is something that will help keep your skin clear and also even out skin tone and dry up oil without over drying and making you face feel tight and dry:
Make yourself a cup of green tea using 2 tea bags. (this part is optional = crush a vitamin C tablet into powder and add it to your tea.) Let the tea cool. Apply some of the tea to your skin and let it dry. (If you use the Vitamin C, some of it will settle at the bottom of the glass, so you have to stir it right before applying it to your face.) Use each day to see a smooth wonderful result!
Hope this helps! good luck

you can try using proactiv for your acne but if its not too bad try using aveeno clear complexion bar..its amazing i love it..oh and i have oliy skin 2 it makes your skin soft while clearing your skin.. some facial masks that are good are the ones with avocado..chamomile…aloe, vitamen e&c, honey and some other natural products, keeping acne away is hard but one thing you could do is wash your face 2-3 times..in the morining, after your make-up has been on your skin for awhile and before you go to bed. also the makeup you should use is water-based, hypoallergenic and oil-free (ie neutrogena). what you can use to take away shine from your face are these clean and clear oil blotting sheets..you can find them at shoppers..or any place they sell over the counter skin treatments. these sheets are awesome..your face becomes matte and you can use them over make-up because it wont smudge! hope this helps! good luck =)

for facials:
the avocado mask: one avocado mashed, apply all over face for 30 min. this is great for moisturizing.
the egg white mask: separate to eggs and apply egg white all over face for 5 min. then rinse of. this helps for tightening pores.
the facial scrub: mix 1/4 cup of brown sugar with 2 tabled spoons milk to form a past. gently rub on face for 1 min and then rinse off. this helps to clear skin and exfoliate.
for your oily skin, you could buy some blotting papers or you could use a toilet seat cover, yes it sounds weird but it works! wash your face in snow or else apply and ice cube all over face to tighten face for a healthy glow. i would consider buying a toner, the body shop has some nice ones. then get a facial moisturizer (i like olay or nutrigena) and a gentle cleanser or scrub(they have some nice organic ones at wild oats and i like st.ives apricot scrub). hope that helps

I would recommend trying Mary Kay. They have a fantastic product called the Miracle Set. You get a 3-in-1 cleanser, anti-aging mosturizer, day and night solution. It comes in two different formulas normal/dry and combination/oily. Plus you get a foundation with the set for $104.00. Find a Mary Kay consultant in your area and she will give you a free facial to try the products before you buy them. That way she will give you make up tips and advice. You can go to the Mary Kay website to find a consultant.

Your acne Rx probably contains alcohol. When you go back for your next prescription, ask for "cream" instead of gel or pads. Wash your face with a mild face wash, and moisturize.

Don't use ProActive.
You need to get into a good routine, and use it twice a day, in the morning and at night before you go to bed.
Use a good, foaming cleanser. A foaming cleanser will get rid of the excess oil and leave your skin feeling squeaky clean. RoC has a really nice one, as do Dove, Neutrogena and Simple Oil Control.
After you cleanse, use an alcohol free toner. Again, I like the Simple Oil control toner.
Use an oil-free moisturiser after you tone. Try Neutrogena, Nivea Visage, Avene, or Simple Oil Control's light moisturiser.
Use a scrub twice a week. Don't exfoliate directly over the pimples because you will inflame and possibly infect them.
Use a clay or charcol mask once, no more than twice a week. Clay or charcol will absorb the oil and draw out the acne.
If your acne is still bad, you can try using an acne gel after you cleanse. Try Benzac, Oxy5, Clean and Clear, or Clearasil. They're good.
A good foundation for you would be one from the Dermatologica range, because it has no talc in it so it won't clog up your poores.
